3D Printing – Technology and Market Evolution

3dprinting

Event Description:

There has certainly been plenty of hype around the relatively new technology of 3D printing, but how many of us have actually printed something in 3D at this point? How many own a 3D printer? Is this just a case of needing more time for users to catch up to the technology, or are there fundamental challenges that still need to be overcome in making 3D printing mainstream — whether that is cost of the devices, application support, or a skills gap.

Join us on August 11th to hear from some of the early adopters of 3D printing technology, as Dan Remba from UPS Stores shares his thoughts on the technology and markets, Raffie Colet from TechShop explains how to create designs, and Robin Emig provides a user’s perspective:

  • The markets and use cases for 3D Printing
  • Designing a 3D object… applications that can generate 3D output
  • Printer technology today and where it’s headed

Robin Emig
Robin Emig

Robin Emig, a Software Development Manager in the Biotech industry, has been a consumer of 3D printing devices since 2009. Initially interested in learning some of the engineering principals behind the printers, he purchased and built a Makerbot Cupcake in 2009 for experimentation. Examples of some items printed: game peices, replacement parts for stroller and tent, custom plant stakes and parts for a custom x-y axis machine. He currently uses online services and the Kickstarter funded M3D at home for his 3D printing needs.
