MacAskill is currently the co-founder and CEO of Cake.co, an exciting new platform for having great conversations around your unique interests. The idea for Cake.co came out of his personal experience with Adventure Rider, the hugely popular motorcycle forum with millions of monthly views that he founded for fun and has run for over twenty years. Cake.co is the answer to the community’s yearning for a much better place and experience to share their special conversations surrounding their unique interests. MacAskill started baking Cake.co after co-founding and running SmugMug as President for over fifteen years. SmugMug, who more recently acquired Flickr, is possibly one of the last profitable independent photo sharing companies still out in the world. Prior to SmugMug, MacAskill was co-founder and CEO of Fatbrain.com, which he took from zero to $100 million in revenues and going public on the Nasdaq in only four years. Fatbrain.com was subsequently acquired for $64 million by Barnes & Noble in 2000 when they were considered to be a real company and Amazon was thought to be toast. In fact, in the late 90’s, Fatbrain.com was recognized as the number two fastest-growing public company in Silicon Valley.
